Hamas announced today, Tuesday, the start of contacts and negotiations for the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza. At the same time, Netanyahu's office reported that Israel will send its delegation to Doha at the end of the week.

Shehab News Agency quoted Hamas spokesman Abdul Latif Al-Qanou’ today as saying, “The contacts and negotiations for the second phase have begun, and we are concerned and interested in the current phase in sheltering, relief, and reconstruction for our people in the Gaza Strip.”

Al-Qanou added that “the occupation is obstructing the humanitarian protocol in the ceasefire agreement and is evading and delaying its implementation,” noting that “shelter and relief for our people is an urgent humanitarian issue that cannot tolerate evasion and procrastination from the occupation.”

He stressed that "rebuilding hospitals and repairing roads and water wells restores life to Gaza after the massive destruction there," noting that "the operation at the Tayasir checkpoint east of Tubas comes in response to the escalating aggression in the West Bank and the right of our people to defend themselves."

The spokesman stressed that "the absence of accountability for the occupation and the international silence encourages the occupation to commit a war of extermination in the West Bank, similar to Gaza," noting that "all attempts by the occupation to exterminate our people and revoke their right to the Gaza Strip and the West Bank will fail."

He stressed that "what the occupation failed to do in the Gaza Strip, it will not succeed in the West Bank, and the battle is a battle of wills."

Israel to send delegation to Doha

In this regard, the office of the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced today, Tuesday, that Israel is preparing to "send a delegation of professional levels to Doha at the end of the week, to discuss the technical details related to continuing to implement the agreement" in Gaza.

This came after a meeting described as positive between Netanyahu, who is visiting Washington, US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and US President's Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff.

According to a statement from Netanyahu's office: "The meeting was positive and friendly. Following the meeting, Israel is preparing to send a delegation of professional levels to Doha at the end of the week, to discuss the technical details related to the continued implementation of the agreement. Upon his return from the United States, the Prime Minister will convene a meeting of the Security Cabinet, to discuss all of Israel's positions on the second stage of the deal, which will guide future negotiations."

Hamas and Israel reached a ceasefire agreement on the 15th of last month, and the truce went into effect on the 19th of last January, after a 15-month Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.

The agreement stipulates three stages, the first of which, lasting 42 days, includes a ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from densely populated areas, the exchange of prisoners and hostages, in addition to facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid and the return of displaced persons, while the details of the second and third stages are being negotiated during this stage.
