Transport workers said on Wednesday that the terrorist Houthi militia has begun forcibly extorting new taxes at checkpoints on most roads between Hodeidah Governorate and other governorates under its control.
Transporters reported on social media on Wednesday that the bandit gangs are supervised by the Houthi Transport Authority and do not allow trucks to pass without paying taxes.
According to sources and complaints from transport workers, Houthi gang checkpoints use beatings, insults, assaults, roadblocks, and truck impoundments as options if drivers refuse to pay.
Workers said the Houthi bandit gangs are demanding up to 20,000 riyals in old currency, or its equivalent in Saudi riyals, 150 riyals, for each truck transporting goods from Hodeidah to the provinces under the terrorist militia's control.
Drivers confirmed that the Houthi-run Transport Authority has become a nightmare, with gangs disrupting services and causing significant material and moral damage to drivers and the transport sector.
They pointed out that Houthi bandit gangs are constantly evolving to extract the newly imposed taxes, and that no point acknowledges the authority of other points.
For the Houthi militias, Ramadan represents a season for amassing enormous sums of money by forcibly imposing taxes on citizens and merchants under various pretexts, often at gunpoint.
