A Ramadan Iftar was held in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, on Saturday evening, attended by hundreds of members of the Yemeni community.
The event, organized by the Yemeni community, the Student Union and the Yemeni Refugee Union in Malaysia, was held at UNTN University under the auspices of our country's embassy in Kuala Lumpur. It coincided with the conclusion of the Yemeni Coffee Day 2025, organized by the Yemeni Cultural Foundation.
In his speech during the event, our country's ambassador to Malaysia, Dr. Adel Bahumid, congratulated the community on the advent of the holy month, praising this occasion that reflects the spirit of brotherhood and solidarity among the people of Yemen in Malaysia.
The ambassador stressed that this group breakfast represents a symbolic message from the Yemeni community in Malaysia to their families in Yemen, that despite their alienation, they will remain united, adhering to their identity, until the homeland returns to being happy as it was.
Bahumid appreciated the role played by the Yemeni community in Malaysia with all its components, describing it as a source of pride for its country, for what it reflects in terms of commitment to Malaysian laws, and for what it represents as an honorable image of Yemen abroad.
The ambassador called on the community members to maintain unity, solidarity and cooperation among themselves, stressing the importance of education as the key to their children’s future, and emphasizing the need to support educational activities that contribute to building more aware generations prepared for the future.
The ambassador pointed out that this breakfast coincides with the conclusion of the activities of the Yemeni Coffee Day 2025, which is organized annually by the Yemeni Cultural Foundation on March 3, stressing that this year's activities were distinctive, as they restored the luster to this ancient Yemeni heritage.
He added that Yemeni coffee represented a civilized bridge across oceans, spreading love and peace, praising the efforts made by the Yemeni Cultural Foundation in shedding light on Yemeni coffee as a symbol of national identity, and thanking those in charge of this event.
In turn, the head of the Yemeni community in Malaysia, Eng. Marwan Al-Mabrouk, stressed that this group Iftar embodies the spirit of brotherhood and solidarity among the sons of Yemen abroad, and confirms that hearts, despite the alienation, remain attached to the homeland.
He pointed out that the role of Yemeni expatriates is not limited to being abroad, but they bear a national responsibility to be a voice for Yemen's unity and stability. Al-Mabrouk also appreciated the efforts made by the Yemeni Embassy in Kuala Lumpur under the patronage of Ambassador Dr. Adel Bahumid, stressing that it was a major partner in the success of the event and supporting the affairs of the community.
The head of the community also thanked all the sponsors and supporters who contributed to organizing the Iftar, stressing that such meetings strengthen social ties and emphasize the unity of the Yemeni ranks abroad.
In the context of concluding the activities of Yemeni Coffee Day 2025, the host of the ceremony, Dr. Majid Al-Samai, recalled the historical and cultural dimension of Yemeni coffee, noting that it was a cultural symbol that inspired writers, philosophers and Sufis, and launched intellectual revolutions that changed the course of history.
Al-Samai said that Yemeni coffee traveled from the balconies of old houses in the high mountains of Yemen to the ports of Mocha, where it carried the name “Mocha” to the world, wrapped in the fragrance of heritage, the warmth of hospitality, and the spirituality of Sufism.
He added that its echoes still reverberate on the terraces of the Yemeni mountains, where farmers sing their songs with every harvest season.
He stressed that the conclusion of the Yemeni Coffee Day activities does not mean the end of the journey, but rather an extension of a long history that continues with every cup poured, every story told, and every heart that beats with love for authentic Yemeni coffee.
