Over the course of six decades of the Republic, we find that the Yemeni political experience was based on strange contradictions and even stranger transformations. It did not create political elites aware of their political future or a society that is aware of its interests and follows the methods of achieving them. Rather, there was a break between the individual elite consciousness and the collective mass consciousness.

Before the war, of course, it was the state that celebrated this national occasion. And people were (almost) satisfied with that, or rather followed it, because they were well aware that celebrating Independence Day annually is a precious part of the state’s duties, within the framework of the concept of general mobilization.
