Taiz: Yemen Youth Net - Special
Today, Sunday, government schools in the city of Taiz witnessed a comprehensive strike, demanding the payment of teachers’ delayed salaries and the improvement of their living conditions.
A correspondent for "Yemeni Youth Net" said that schools in Taiz city closed their doors to students today, Sunday, to demand the acceleration of the payment of teachers' salaries, and to review and reform the wages and salaries law in a manner that is consistent with the current economic and living conditions.
An educational source stated that the strike came after raising red flags and continuous appeals, which were met with neglect and lack of response from the government.
The strike came in response to the call of the Yemeni Teachers Syndicate, which called for a comprehensive strike in all schools and educational facilities in Taiz Governorate starting today, Sunday, and the suspension of all educational activities, including stopping teaching in accordance with the law, as an escalation step to ensure that the demands of teachers and educators are met.
The union held the local authority and the government responsible for the situation of teachers and educators and the repercussions that will result from these protest measures on the educational and pedagogical process.
She called on all teachers and educators to unite, stand together and carry out protest activities, as indicated, considering this the correct way to achieve the demands of teachers and educators and protect the future of our students.
It also held the government fully responsible for any failure to meet the teachers' fair demands, stressing its continued defence of these rights by all legal and legitimate means.
