The United Nations announced, in a recent report, that heavy rains and floods have caused the death and injury of at least 24 people and affected nearly 159,000 others in Yemen since the beginning of this year 2024.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs ( OCHA ) said: “Heavy rains and floods affected 22,688 families consisting of 158,816 people in 19 Yemeni governorates, during the period between January 1 and July 28, 2024.”
The report added that the resulting rains and torrential rains have so far claimed the lives of 10 people and injured 14 others.
The OCHA office explained that partner humanitarian organizations provided assistance to 13,878 families, and that they continue to work to respond to the needs of the most vulnerable groups affected by rains and floods throughout the country.
For months, Yemen has been witnessing seasonal rains that caused major floods that led to deaths and significant material damage to displacement camps, housing, and infrastructure in several Yemeni cities.
