The European Union has expressed its response to the serious engagement with the priorities put forward by the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, which include security coordination with the Yemeni government, and reallocating European support to include the electricity, energy and basic services sectors.

This came during President Al-Alimi's meeting with the European Commissioner for the Middle East and North Africa, Dubravka Shojka, on Friday, on the sidelines of the International Security Conference in Munich, according to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba).

According to the agency, the two sides discussed the latest developments in the local situation, the European support required for the Yemeni economy, in addition to the efforts made to reduce the effects of the humanitarian crisis resulting from the Houthi attacks on oil facilities and shipping vessels.

Al-Alimi renewed his call for the European Union to classify the Houthi group as a foreign terrorist organization, stressing the importance of directing European aid towards securing basic service needs in Yemen.

The Yemeni government is facing a severe financial crisis due to the halt in oil exports due to Houthi attacks, which has made it unable to provide basic services to citizens, especially electricity.
