The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate condemned the execution of journalist Mohammed Qaed Al-Maqri, the correspondent of Yemen Today Channel in Hadhramaut, who has been missing since October 12, 2015, at the hands of “Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula,” which announced on Friday that it had killed him along with 11 others in previous periods on the pretext of espionage.

In a statement of condolence on Sunday, the union described the crime as "terrorist, hideous and heinous" against a journalist and civilians by an extremist terrorist group.

The statement stressed the need to "hold this group accountable and investigate the figures who were active with it at that stage and became known to the official authorities."

The union condemned the crime, describing it as "foreign to Yemeni society, its customs and traditions, and hostile to human values and the right to life," stressing its right to prosecute all killers of journalists and those who attack the right to expression and freedom of the press.

The union called on the concerned authorities to investigate the crime, prosecute the criminals, and uncover the body of Muhammad Al-Maqri and hand it over to his family.

The union indicated that it had followed up on Al-Maqri's case throughout the past years in cooperation with the International Federation of Journalists, without any actual response from the concerned authorities.

The terrorist organization revealed on Friday that it had executed journalist Al-Maqri, along with 11 others, on charges of espionage.
