US President Donald Trump announced today that he has ordered the military to launch "decisive and forceful military action" against Houthi terrorists in Yemen.

"Our soldiers are carrying out attacks on terrorist bases, their leaders, and their defenses to protect American shipping and restore freedom of navigation," Trump said.

"I tell the Houthi terrorists that your time is up and your attacks must stop, or hell will rain down on you like you have never seen before," he added.

The US President asserted that the response of his predecessor, Joe Biden, to the group's attacks was "pathetically weak, so they continued their recklessness and advance."

"They (the Houthis) have waged a sustained campaign of piracy, violence, and terrorism against American ships, aircraft, drones, and others," he added.

Trump stressed that his administration "will not tolerate Houthi attacks on American ships, and we will use overwhelming lethal force until we achieve our objective."

The US President called on Iran to stop supporting the group and "not threaten the American people, our president, or global shipping lanes."

Raids

Local sources in Sana'a reported that US aircraft launched several airstrikes on Sana'a on Saturday evening, confirming that violent explosions were heard.

For its part, the Houthi-affiliated Al Masirah channel reported in a brief breaking news release that "an aggression targeted Sana'a," noting that four raids targeted the Al-Jarraf neighborhood north of the capital.

Houthi-affiliated media also reported that an "American-British aggression" targeted a residential neighborhood in the Shu'ub district, north of Sana'a.

Later that evening, Houthi media reported that the raids killed 9 people and injured 9 others.

The Washington Post quoted a defense official as saying that US warships and jets launched attacks across Yemen, targeting radars, air defense sites, and drone launching points.

The official added that this operation marks the beginning of a campaign targeting the Houthis' military capabilities, following attacks on commercial vessels and US forces in the region.

warning sign

The New York Times quoted a US official as saying that Washington began carrying out military strikes today against Houthi-controlled targets, with the first being carried out by fighter jets from the aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman in the Red Sea.

The American newspaper noted that the strikes ordered by President Trump targeted Houthi radars, air defenses, missile systems, and drones, with the goal of reopening international shipping lanes in the Red Sea, which the group has disrupted.

The same source also stated that the US bombing also aims to send a warning signal to Iran, stressing that targeting the Houthi arsenal could last for several days and expand in scope depending on their response.

He pointed out that US security officials want a more aggressive campaign that would strip the Houthis of control over parts of the country.

The New York Times also reported that officials in Washington and the region are anticipating a counterattack by the Houthis.
