Aden: Yemen Youth Net
The Yemeni government welcomed Canada's decision to classify the Houthi terrorist militia, supported by the Iranian regime, as a terrorist group, noting that this reflects the international community's growing awareness of its threat to security and stability in Yemen and the region.
This came in the first official comment from the Yemeni government on the decision, in a statement by its Minister of Information, Muammar Al-Eryani, published on the X platform.
"We welcome Canada's decision to classify the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist militia as a terrorist group today, Monday. This is an important step that reflects the international community's growing awareness of the danger of this criminal militia, which is implementing Iran's destructive agenda in Yemen and the region, and threatening the security of maritime navigation and the free flow of global trade," Information Minister Muammar Al-Eryani said.
Al-Eryani pointed out that the Houthi militia did not stop at committing crimes against the Yemeni people, but rather went beyond that to threaten regional and international security by targeting commercial ships and oil tankers in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab and the Gulf of Aden, one of the most important global waterways, which poses a direct threat to global trade.
Al-Eryani called on the rest of the world to take similar steps to classify the Houthi militia as a "terrorist group", and to become a global terrorist organization that is politically and economically besieged, its assets frozen, its leaders banned from traveling, and they are prosecuted before international courts.
Al-Eryani stressed that comprehensive international action is the only way to stop the Houthi project run from Tehran, protect maritime security in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab and the Gulf of Aden, maintain regional and international security and peace, and save the Yemeni people from the tragedy they have been experiencing since the coup.
And it wasThe Canadian government announced yesterday, Monday, that it has designated the Houthi group in Yemen as a terrorist entity under the Criminal Code, indicating that the militia has thus met the definition of a "terrorist group."
"The Government of Canada has designated the Houthis as a terrorist entity under the Criminal Code," Dominic LeBlanc, Canada's Minister of Public Safety, Democratic Institutions and Intergovernmental Affairs, said in a statement.
The statement, published by the Ministry of Public Safety, stated that the Houthi militias contributed to the unrest in the Middle East through numerous attacks targeting civilian and naval vessels in the Red Sea and other waterways.
He noted that the Houthi group is also closely linked to Iran. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force and Hezbollah are both entities listed as terrorists in Canada.
