FIFA officially announced today, Wednesday, the victory of the joint file submitted by Morocco, Portugal and Spain to host the 2030 World Cup.
FIFA had previously explained that the joint bid exceeded the minimum requirements for hosting the World Cup.
Morocco's success in hosting the World Cup (along with Portugal and Spain) reflects the remarkable development of Moroccan football recently, especially with the historic arrival to the semi-finals of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
101 matches will be held in Morocco, Portugal and Spain.
The 2030 edition coincides with a historic moment that holds great symbolic significance for FIFA, as it is the year in which the International Federation celebrates the 100th anniversary of the first edition in the history of the World Cup, and this celebration will be embodied by holding three matches in three different stadiums in South America.
After extensive consultations with all the continental confederations, the FIFA Council approved the proposal to hold a unique event to celebrate the centenary of the World Cup in South America, specifically in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay. Accordingly, Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay will host three matches of the 2030 World Cup on their territories, one match in each country.
FIFA also announced today, Wednesday, that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia won the honor of hosting the 2034 World Cup.
Thus, Saudi Arabia will be the second country in the Middle East to organize the FIFA World Cup finals after Qatar, which hosted the 2022 edition.
The announcement of the Saudi file winning the bid to host the 2034 World Cup came during the 2024 FIFA Extraordinary Congress.
FIFA had previously announced that Saudi Arabia's bid to host the 2034 World Cup had received a rating of 419.8 out of 500, which is the highest technical rating ever given by the International Federation to a bid submitted to host the World Cup.
