US Vice President Kamala Harris conceded defeat in the presidential election race against Republican Donald Trump on Wednesday. Harris congratulated Trump in a phone call on his victory in the US presidential election.
US presidential candidate Kamala Harris said, "I admit defeat, I understand the feelings of disappointment, and we will not stop trying. We accept the results of the election, and she congratulated Trump on his victory."
"I spoke with President Trump and told him we would help with a peaceful transition of power," she said in her concession speech. "I am proud of the race and the way we fought for the presidency."
"The results of these elections are not what we sought or fought for. Hope in the American promise will remain as long as we do not surrender," she noted.

“President Trump thanked Vice President Harris for her determination, professionalism and perseverance throughout the campaign, and they agreed on the importance of uniting the country,” Trump campaign spokesman Stephen Chung said in a statement.
Harris performed worse than Democrats had hoped at the polls, losing decisively to Trump in several swing states that President Biden won four years ago.
Trump won the 2024 US presidential election, surpassing the 270-vote threshold required to defeat his Democratic rival Kamala Harris, to return to the White House for the second time as the country's 47th president.
Earlier on Wednesday, Trump appeared before his supporters, announcing his victory in the 2024 US presidential election race, saying in a “victory speech” from his campaign headquarters in Florida: “This is a political victory like no other our country has ever seen before, and we thank the American people for the honor of electing me again.”
If he is officially declared the winner over Harris, Trump will return to the White House four years after losing the 2020 US presidential election to his rival Joe Biden, with a number of key swing states in the country, most notably Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and North Carolina.
