Acting Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Waed Badib, stressed the importance of the Internet services expansion project within the second phase, which aims to improve the quality of service and expand the scope of coverage.

Starlink has officially announced that Yemen has entered its coverage area to provide satellite internet service, and this was also confirmed by the Ministry of Communications and Information Systems in the Yemeni government.

The Executive Director General of the General Corporation for Wired and Wireless Telecommunications in the interim capital, Aden, Eng. Wael Tarmoum, announced today, Sunday, the start of launching the official experimental phase of the Starlink (satellite internet) service in the liberated governorates.

The internationally recognized Yemeni government is stepping up its efforts to redraw the vital telecommunications sector, in a move to break the Houthis’ control over the sector, which has generated significant financial revenues since the war began in 2015, and is one of the group’s most important financial resources, raising questions about the government’s success this time in achieving its goals.

The service works by connecting users to satellites via an antenna dish that is connected to the user's router and modem, which in turn are connected to the Internet.

She confirmed that a wide operation of all “Starlink” services will soon be launched through the organization’s points of sale distributed and spread in most governorates.
