The Economist magazine quoted military sources on Sunday as saying that Israel is planning to launch a ground attack that includes seizing a buffer zone of several miles on the border with Lebanon.

She added that Israeli combat units began training on Saturday in military bases in the northern areas, without beginning to mobilize their forces in the assembly areas on the border.

But the sources indicated that the occupation army does not have sufficient forces to carry out such a step.

According to the same sources, the most cautious generals in Israel, including Defense Minister Yoav Galant, support the strategy that Israel is currently following, which is gradual military escalation, which they hope will give Hezbollah room to reconsider its position and retreat, that is, before the end of the war on Gaza.

Since last Thursday, the Israeli occupation army has launched at least three waves of attacks targeting, according to what it claims, Hezbollah missile launchers. In previous statements, it claimed that these attacks target Hezbollah’s capabilities and limit its attempts to attack targets inside the occupied Palestinian territories.

Yesterday, Saturday, the occupation army decided to close the airspace in the northern regions for 24 hours due to the security tension after the assassination of Aqil and Hezbollah leaders, while the Lebanese Ministry of Health said that the number of martyrs in the Israeli raid that targeted them rose to 45 martyrs, noting that the rubble removal operations are continuing.

Hezbollah launched barrages of "heavy" missiles, used for the first time, on large areas in the Lower Galilee and east of Haifa, announcing the targeting of the Israeli "Ramat David" air base and the military industries complexes of the Rafael company, while the Israeli occupation army intensified its raids on southern Lebanon, in light of a heavy week that the Lebanese lived amidst great tragedies.

International and UN warnings are increasing about the danger of escalation in the region and its slide into a comprehensive war, in light of the major escalation witnessed on the Lebanese front during the past few days.

The escalation has increased since the two operations to blow up wireless communication devices in Lebanon on Tuesday and Wednesday, and the assassination of the prominent Hezbollah leader Ibrahim Aqil, along with a number of leaders of the Radwan Brigade, on Friday.

Hezbollah launched a heavy barrage of rockets at large areas in the Lower Galilee and east of Haifa in northern Israel, including the Ramat David air base.

In this context, US President Joe Biden (81 years old) expressed his concern on Sunday about the tensions in the region, stressing that he is doing "everything" to avoid the expansion of the conflict.

"We will do everything we can to avoid a broader war," Biden told reporters at the White House. "We are still pushing hard" in that direction.

Earlier today, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned of the dangers of turning Lebanon into “another Gaza.”
