Today, Sunday, Syrian state television broadcast a video clip of the Syrian opposition announcing the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime and the release of all detainees from prisons.

This morning, Bashar al-Assad's regime fell after losing control over the capital, Damascus, which fell into the hands of the armed Syrian opposition factions.

Syrian state television broadcast a video clip in which a group of opposition members made a statement after the fall of the regime.

The clip indicated that Bashar al-Assad had been toppled and all detainees in prisons had been released.

He called on all opponents and citizens to protect the institutions of the free Syrian state, adding, "Long live a free Syria for all Syrians."

Celebrations of the fall of the regime

Syrians took to the streets of the Syrian capital, Damascus, early Sunday morning, and gunfire was heard throughout the capital, at its entrances and all its axes, in celebration of the fall of President Bashar al-Assad's regime.

The Umayyad Square in the center of the capital, Damascus, hosted part of these celebrations, which also extended to the vicinity of the radio and television building, coinciding with the flight of army and security forces from several headquarters, most notably the General Staff and the Ministry of Defense in the capital.

On November 27, clashes erupted between Syrian regime forces and opposition factions in the western countryside of Aleppo Governorate.

The opposition forces were then able to impose their control over Aleppo, Idlib, Hama, Daraa, then Sweida, Homs, and finally Damascus.
