Ahmed al-Sharaa, the commander of military operations in the Syrian opposition, announced on Wednesday his intention to dissolve the security services affiliated with the former regime and close the prisons known for their bad reputation, stressing that those involved in crimes against the Syrian people will be held accountable in accordance with the laws and regulations in force.

In an exclusive statement to Reuters, Al-Sharaa pointed out the importance of protecting the rights of Syrians, stressing that the former regime had thrown tens of thousands of detainees into those prisons, where the fate of thousands of them has not yet been determined.

Al-Sharaa stressed that the transitional government, scheduled to remain until March 2025, will consist of technocrats, with a focus on ensuring stability and coordinating with international organizations to secure chemical weapons depots.

He stressed the rejection of pardoning those involved in torturing detainees, calling on countries to hand over these criminals to achieve justice.

He announced that a list of the names of those most involved in torturing the Syrian people would be published soon, with rewards for anyone who provides information about them.

These statements come in light of the major political transformations in Syria after the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, amid Arab and international calls to preserve the unity and independence of the country and ensure the protection of the Syrian people and stop the bloodshed of its sons, according to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed newspaper.
