The British newspaper "The Sun" revealed that the ousted Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was subjected to an assassination attempt by poisoning while he was in Russia, last Sunday.

The newspaper reported in its report published on Thursday that press reports indicated an assassination attempt targeting Assad. It explained that the SVR general’s electronic account - believed to be run by one of Russia’s former top spies - reported that Assad, 59, felt unwell on Sunday and asked for medical help. The account added that he immediately began coughing violently and choking.

The source noted that "there are strong indications that he may have been the target of an assassination attempt." According to reports, Assad received treatment at his apartment, and his condition was said to have stabilized by Monday.

According to The Sun, reports have emerged that medical tests showed the presence of poison in the lion's body, but these claims have not been supported by any confirmed sources and no official comment has been issued by Russia.

In another context, it was revealed last month that Asma al-Assad, the president's wife, was effectively banned from returning to the United Kingdom.

Asma, 49, who was born in London, is unable to return to Britain because her passport has expired.

It is noteworthy that at dawn on December 8, 2024, Sednaya prison, the human slaughterhouse as the Syrians call it, was opened and thousands of detainees were released. Only then did the Syrian people realize that their revolution had succeeded and that they had brought down the regime of Bashar al-Assad.

But Assad had already fallen 14 years ago, when children in Daraa chanted against him, and when the regime could not silence them, it sent its soldiers against them, and when its soldiers could not kill everyone, it brought in soldiers who believed that Assad was an ally of their major causes and that he would support them against their enemy if they supported him against his people.

Assad and his family fled to Russia, where they were granted asylum, after the armed opposition swept through one Syrian province after another and took control of the capital, Damascus.
