Israeli General Yitzhak Brick spoke about the reasons behind the failure of the occupation army to defeat the resistance movement "Hamas" in the Gaza Strip, despite the passage of more than 14 months since the devastating war.

In an article in Maariv newspaper, Brick said that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's repeated assurances that the war will not end before eliminating Hamas and releasing the prisoners from the Gaza Strip prove, over time, that the opposite is happening.

He continued: "Israel is moving further away from its ability to eliminate Hamas. Today, Hamas controls the Gaza Strip, and thousands of its fighters are underground in tunnels extending for hundreds of kilometers."

Brik claimed that Al-Qassam had recently strengthened its ranks with about 3,000 young fighters whose ages ranged between 18 and 20 years only.

"It is true that we are up there, but everything is still going on down there in the tunnels, without any control by the Israeli army. Hamas continues to run the Gaza Strip, and we have returned for the fifth time to Jabalia and a similar number there, and in other areas as well we are losing many soldiers and suffering serious injuries," he added.

According to Brick, "the Israeli army cannot eliminate Hamas because there is no surplus of forces and no Israeli soldiers remain in the areas that it has occupied for a long time, and this is the reason why they are unable to eliminate Hamas rule."

He pointed out that "the Israeli army carries out time and again aimless raids, which have no goal in bringing down Hamas. But in the name of these clichés, Netanyahu abandons rescuing the hostages who die in Hamas tunnels. All this serves his ultimate interest of continuing the war in order to remain in power."

“Leaving hostages to die in Hamas tunnels is a very serious violation of all the basic values that generations of fighters and civilians have been raised on. This negligence is treason. These shameful actions by Netanyahu and his associates will lead to disastrous results. Citizens and soldiers who have been betrayed by the country in their most difficult times will express their reluctance to join the army,” he continued.
