For the second week, popular and union protests continue, denouncing the deterioration of economic conditions and the collapse of public services in the interim capital, Aden, in southern Yemen, while the Unionist Rally Party called on the Transitional Council to release detainees.

Today, Sunday, the Khormaksar and Mansoura directorates witnessed angry popular demonstrations in protest against the starvation of the people, the spread of corruption and looting, and in condemnation of the terrible deterioration of the national currency and the deterioration of public services, most notably electricity and water.

The demonstrators raised slogans and chanted slogans against the Southern Transitional Council government, demanding the overthrow of all corrupt people and the release of all those forcibly disappeared and kidnapped, and stressing the continuation of escalation to confront the economic war and seize citizens' rights.

In the context, local sources reported that the Al-Buraiqa Directorate is witnessing an unprecedented security alert by the Transitional Council forces, as they have set up military checkpoints, carried out arbitrary arrests, and pursued citizens to prevent any gathering, with the escalation of popular unrest.

The security measures came after the directorate witnessed an angry demonstration in which protesters demanded the departure of the Transitional Council and its leader Aidarous al-Zubaidi. They also chanted slogans against the government, the coalition, and the spread of corruption.

For days, the Southern Transitional Council forces have been launching night raids targeting the homes of citizens and activists in a number of Aden districts, due to their participation in the protests, in conjunction with inflammatory media campaigns accusing the protesters of being "sleeper cells to stir up chaos."

Local sources said that "the Transitional Forces launched an arrest campaign in Khormaksar, targeting many activists," noting that they were taken to the Four Belts camp behind Jabal Hadid.

In the context, the Unity Party said that its General Secretariat is following up on the demonstrations taking place in Aden as a result of the collapse of the currency and services and the citizen’s inability to bear their consequences.

The party said in a statement, "The people's conditions have worsened and famines have spread in light of the complete silence of the Presidential Council and the government, which prompted citizens to go out and demand improved living conditions and services."

The statement added: "Unfortunately, the security forces fired live ammunition into the air, arrested a number of young men, and raided homes. We confirm that no acts of vandalism were carried out in the city by the demonstrators, but we condemn the offensive slogans chanted by some."

The party concluded its statement by calling on the Transitional Council to immediately and unconditionally release detainees, stop raiding homes, respect their sanctity, and allow people to demonstrate as a constitutional right for citizens to express their dissatisfaction with the poor performance of legitimacy in all its components.
