Yemeni fishermen appeal to the government to intervene with the Sudanese authorities to return their boats

17 Yemeni fishermen from Al Hudaydah Governorate appealed to the concerned authorities in the Yemeni government to intervene with the Sudanese authorities to return their boats that were confiscated five months ago while they were being detained after their boats drifted into international waters.

The fishermen said in a video recording published by the local authority media in Al Hudaydah Governorate on its Facebook account that they have been living in harsh conditions for more than five months after being detained in Sudan while fishing in international waters, after their boats were blown away by winds and waves.

The fishermen, who are sleeping on the streets of Sudan, added that the continuous efforts of the Sudanese authorities did not result in the release of the two boats that were confiscated by the Sudanese authorities and rented to Sudanese fishermen, which forced them to remain in Sudan after they were released from prisons.

They pointed out that the Sudanese authorities had sentenced them to six months in prison or to pay one million Sudanese pounds for each person, before releasing them after the intervention of the Yemeni embassy in Sudan. However, they did not return the boats, which were their only source of livelihood.

The fishermen appealed to the concerned government authorities to quickly intervene to get their boats out, so they can return to their homeland.
