Saturday is the first day of Ramadan in most Arab countries

Most Arab countries announced on Friday evening that the crescent moon of the holy month of Ramadan for the year 1446 AH had been sighted.
According to official data, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the Emirates, the Sultanate of Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, Egypt, Syria, Palestine, Sudan, Somalia, Libya, Tunisia and Algeria announced Saturday as the first day of the holy month of Ramadan.
In Morocco, the Ministry of Endowments announced that Saturday is the last day of Shaaban, and Sunday is the first day of Ramadan.
In Iraq, the Sunni Endowment Diwan and the Ministry of Endowments in the Kurdistan Region announced that Saturday is the first day of Ramadan, while the office of Shiite cleric Ali al-Sistani announced that Sunday is the first day of the holy month.
In Lebanon, the Grand Mufti of the Republic, who represents the Sunni authority, announced that Saturday is the first day of Ramadan, while the country's Shiite Islamic Council said that Saturday is the last day of the month of Sha'ban.
In East Asia, Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim country, announced Saturday as the first day of Ramadan, while Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore, Thailand and Cambodia said the holy month would begin on Sunday.
