The symposium "The Role of Media in Promoting National Awareness and Supporting the State's Recovery," organized by the Mokha Center for Strategic Studies and the Red Sea Center for Political and Security Studies in Marib, concluded with a number of important recommendations for strengthening national media performance in the face of current challenges.
The recommendations emphasized the need to unify national media discourse and enhance cooperation between Yemeni, regional, and international media institutions to ensure a clear picture of the situation in Yemen and expose the violations committed by the Iran-backed Houthi militia.
She also stressed the importance of developing media tools and adopting modern digital strategies to break Houthi media hegemony, and to leverage social media to disseminate meaningful national content.
Participants recommended the importance of restructuring national media institutions and building a unified media vision that supports the national struggle. They also recommended strengthening communication with international media to ensure the true Yemeni narrative is conveyed to the world and to counter Houthi disinformation campaigns targeting local and international public opinion.
The symposium, attended by a number of media professionals, researchers, and specialists, discussed three main themes. The first was the challenges facing national media. Media professional Mohammed Al-Jamai reviewed the structural obstacles hindering media performance, including weak resources, a shortage of professional staff, and the absence of a unified media strategy. He called for the adoption of development plans to overcome these problems.
In the second section, "The Role of Social Media in the Battle for Awareness," journalist Abdullah Al-Munifi explained that social media platforms have become a major battleground, necessitating their effective use to counter Houthi propaganda and strengthen national loyalty through them.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ateq Jarallah, head of the Mokha Center for Strategic Studies, highlighted the weakness of Yemeni representation in international media coverage, calling for activating partnerships with foreign media to convey the suffering of the Yemeni people and the ongoing violations they are subjected to.
During the opening of the symposium, Mohammed Al-Wals Buhaibeh, head of the Red Sea Center for Political and Security Studies, emphasized that national media institutions face a historic responsibility that requires them to develop their media discourse, unify their efforts to counter Houthi disinformation, and direct local and international public opinion to support the restoration of the state and the end of the coup.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information, Mr. Ahmed Rabie, also stressed the importance of anticipating the future of national media in the post-war period, to ensure the restoration of the state and strengthen national identity.
