The UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, stressed the need to refocus diplomatic efforts to avoid further escalation in Yemen and the region, following extensive US airstrikes on Houthi militia positions in Yemen.

UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq stated in a briefing on Monday that UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg is in close contact with Yemeni, regional, and international actors regarding recent developments in Yemen, calling for maximum restraint and adherence to international humanitarian law.

He added, "Grundberg urged a refocus on diplomatic efforts to avoid further uncontrollable destabilization and instability in Yemen and the region."

Haq expressed the United Nations' concern over recent developments in Yemen, calling for maximum restraint and a halt to all military activities.

"Any further escalation could exacerbate regional tensions and fuel a cycle of retaliation that could further destabilize Yemen and the region, and pose a significant risk to the already deteriorating humanitarian situation in the country," Mr. Haq said.

He stressed the importance of all parties' commitment to international humanitarian law.

On Saturday, the United States launched a large-scale offensive targeting dozens of Houthi terrorist militia sites in several Yemeni governorates. Pentagon statements confirmed that the attacks would continue until the Houthis cease their threats to international shipping.
