The International Organization for Migration said that the Turkish Coast Guard intercepted more than 6,300 migrants, including a number of Yemenis, who were trying to cross to Europe by sea, during last November.
The UN organization added in a report issued yesterday, Saturday, that the Turkish Coast Guard intercepted 6,355 migrants who were trying to cross to Europe, and reported one death among the crossers during last November.
She explained that these numbers only include those who were intercepted and rescued by the Turkish Coast Guard, while the actual number of migrants and refugees trying to cross from Turkey to Europe by sea may be higher.
She pointed out that the first ten nationalities mentioned by the immigrants were (Afghanistan, the Syrian Arab Republic, Sudan, Palestine, Egypt, Yemen, Iraq, Iran, Somalia, and Senegal).
