Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, expressed concern over the US attacks on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen.

"We are concerned by the attacks launched by the United States on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, which have resulted in reported deaths and injuries," Dujarric said in a statement released Sunday.

He added, "We are also concerned about the Houthis' threats to continue their attacks on ships in the Red Sea."

Regarding the escalating tension in the region, Dujarric called for "maximum restraint and a halt to all military activities."

He pointed out that any further escalation could increase regional tensions, fuel acts of revenge that could increase instability in Yemen and the region, and pose serious risks to the already dire humanitarian situation in the country.

On Saturday, US President Donald Trump announced that he had ordered the military to launch a "major offensive" against the Houthis in Yemen.

The US attack on several Yemeni cities resulted in 53 deaths, including five children and two women, while the number of injured rose to 98, including nine children and nine women, according to the Ministry of Health in the (unrecognized) Houthi government.

On Sunday and into Monday morning, US airstrikes continued. The White House announced Sunday evening that the airstrikes targeted Houthi leaders. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the United States would continue attacking the Houthis in Yemen until they halt their attacks on shipping.

For its part, the Houthi militia announced targeting the US aircraft carrier "Harry Truman" for the second time within 24 hours.
