US forces say they thwarted Houthi attacks on naval and commercial vessels in the Gulf of Aden

The US Central Command said on Tuesday evening that its forces had successfully repelled attacks by the Houthis on US Navy ships and US-flagged commercial vessels as they transited the Gulf of Aden on December 9 and 10.

The command explained that the two American destroyers, USS Stockdale (DDG 106) and USS Okene (DDG 77), were able to repel the attacks using advanced offensive systems, including attack drones and anti-ship cruise missiles, without causing any injuries or damage to ships or personnel.

The command said the two destroyers were escorting three US commercial ships to ensure their safe passage amid increased threats, confirming the destroyers' success in dealing with a similar Iranian-backed attack at the end of last November.

The Central Command stressed that these operations come within the framework of the United States' commitment to protecting American personnel, regional partners, and ensuring the security of international navigation in the face of Iranian-backed Houthi threats.
