US-Yemeni talks on security cooperation and enhancing the operational capabilities of the Yemeni armed forces

Commander of the US Central Command, General Michael Erik Kurilla, discussed with the Chief of the Yemeni General Staff, Lieutenant General Saghir bin Aziz, strategies for security cooperation and enhancing the operational capabilities of the Yemeni Armed Forces.

"From January 11-12, General Michael Erik Kurilla visited U.S. service members. While in Saudi Arabia, General Kurilla met with Lieutenant General Bin Aziz, who traveled from Yemen to attend the visit," the U.S. Central Command said in a statement.

The statement added: "The two leaders discussed efforts to enhance security cooperation and combat regional threats, such as the Iran-backed Houthis and their attacks on military and commercial vessels in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab."

They also discussed "strategies to enhance the operational capabilities of the Yemeni Armed Forces, and agreed to continue building on the partnership through future engagements," according to the statement.

According to the statement, "the meeting affirmed the US Central Command's commitment to promoting peace, stability and security throughout the region."
