Yemen's representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saadi
The Yemeni government renewed its full support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and its support for the continuation of its work and the exercise of its important humanitarian role that cannot be dispensed with or replaced in providing assistance to the Palestinian people to avoid the disastrous consequences resulting from withholding humanitarian relief from Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territories and using it as a tool of war in flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law.
This came in a statement by the Yemeni government before the informal meeting of the United Nations General Assembly to hear a briefing on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), which was delivered on Wednesday by Yemen's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saadi, according to the Saba Agency.
Al-Saadi stressed that UNRWA is not just an aid agency, but its services include providing education, health care, social services and protection to Palestinian refugees. It cannot be dispensed with, just as the Palestinian refugee issue and the right of return and compensation guaranteed by international law and relevant United Nations resolutions cannot be liquidated.
The statement pointed out that the Israeli Knesset's move to ban UNRWA's activities in the occupied Palestinian territory, and prevent its employees from obtaining the diplomatic privileges and immunities granted to United Nations organizations operating in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, is considered a violation of international law and Israel's obligations as the occupying power in the occupied Palestinian territory.
