Yemeni-American Dr. Amir Ghaleb announced his candidacy for the position of mayor of Hamtramck, Michigan, for a second term, confirming that he received support from President Trump in the upcoming local elections.
“I am announcing my candidacy for a second term as Mayor of Hamtramck, and will continue to serve our community with integrity, dedication and loyalty,” Amir Ghaleb said in a post on his Facebook page late Tuesday.
Ghalib, who is the mayor of the Muslim-majority city whose votes went to President Trump in the last presidential election, returned in another post saying that he received a call from President Trump, during which Trump confirmed his support for his candidacy for a second term, in addition to other important roles that he will assign to him within his administration.
He explained that the call discussed a number of topics of interest to our community, our city, the United States and the world, including the importance of achieving just peace in the Middle East and Ukraine through peaceful and just means, and other miscellaneous topics.
In November 2021, Ghaleb won the position of Mayor of Hamtramck as the first Arab Muslim to win the position, after defeating the city's former mayor, Karen Majewski, with 68.24% of the votes.
