Houthis.. Occupying the consciousness

Our Writers| 27 February, 2025 - 6:54 PM

The danger that threatens us is not just a war waged with weapons, but a war waged in the depths, in the roots, in the memory that is being reshaped, in the language that is being reshortened, in the generations that are being kidnapped before they realize themselves, so they are reprogrammed for blind obedience, for complete submission, for losing the ability to question. Al-Houthi is not fighting only to rule, but to reshape the human being, to transform him into an obedient shadow, into a tool robbed of his soul, into a being who sees in himself nothing but a means to achieve the will of tyranny.

What the Houthis are doing is not an occupation of land, but an occupation of consciousness. They do not only seek to control cities, but also minds, the language we speak, the concepts with which we create our existence. It is a project to replace the Yemeni person with a distorted version that does not think, does not dream, and has no affiliation other than to the equation of obedience and submission. They do not want a people, but a herd; they do not want citizens, but creatures that praise him, repeat his myths, and sanctify their slavery as if it were an inevitable fate.

Today, crime is not only committed on battlefields, but in schools, in classrooms that are no longer places of education, but factories for producing restricted minds. Children are kidnapped to brainwashing camps, where they are taught to hate everything that is different, programmed to be soldiers before they are children, stripped of the right to dream of a different future. In the Houthi era, education is no longer education, but a weapon to produce a generation without memory, without identity, without the ability to refuse, understand, or rebel.

This is not a war on power, but on meaning itself, on man at his core. What is happening is a comprehensive intellectual genocide, where the question is uprooted, thought is uprooted from its sources, and consciousness is replaced by superstition. Al-Houthi does not rule by logic, but by fear; he does not build a state, but rather fences people within walls of illusion. In his time, freedom becomes blasphemy, knowledge a crime, and thought an unforgivable rebellion.

We are not only losing a homeland, we are losing an entire generation, which is being reshaped to reflect the vision of the tyrants. The danger here is not that we will be defeated in battle, but that we will wake up one day to a generation that does not know Yemen as we knew it, that does not understand the meaning of freedom, that sees itself only as a cog in the machine of injustice, a generation that does not realize that there is a world outside this prison, that there is a voice other than this voice, that there is a truth other than the distorted truth that it is taught every day.

The bottom line: A nation cannot survive when its people’s consciousness is hijacked, and a people cannot be resurrected after being reshaped to be the opposite of itself. I fear that one day we will wake up and find that Yemen, which we knew as a land, an idea, and a dream, has vanished, and all that remains of it is a distorted shadow, inhabiting a memory that is being rewritten by the hands of tyrants.
