Human rights sources reported that a Yemeni journalist disappeared from the capital, Sana'a, days after receiving threats and being pursued by the Houthi militia.

The Yemen Journalists Protection Network said in a statement on Friday that it had received a report of the disappearance of journalist Ahmed Awadha in the Yemeni capital, Sana'a, and held the Houthi group fully responsible for his life and any future exposure.

The network said in its statement that journalist Ahmed Awada disappeared after leaving his home on the evening of March 10, and that his family was subsequently unable to contact him or reach him via his phone numbers or social media accounts.

According to the statement, the report issued by relatives of journalist Ahmed Awada confirmed that he had received threats several days before his disappearance, claiming that he was being monitored and placed on the group's hit list, and that he was being pursued by gunmen in the capital.

The network expressed its categorical rejection of the continued exposure of journalists in Yemen to attacks, harassment, and any form of abuse, warning against the use of organized crime against journalists in Yemen as a means of intimidating them and undermining freedom of the press and freedom of expression.

At the end of its statement, the network called on the Houthi group to reveal the journalist's fate. It also called on local and international organizations, bodies, and media outlets to stand in solidarity with the journalist and his family and to work together to provide better protection for journalists in Yemen.
