The Houthi militia is preparing to launch a campaign to collect electricity tariffs for March and arrears in the capital, Sana'a, before Eid al-Fitr. This is an attempt to burden citizens with new obligations despite the costly burdens of Ramadan.

Yemen Youth Net obtained a copy of a Houthi document in the capital's secretariat issued by the Houthi General Electricity Corporation, ordering all district managers in the capital to collect the current month's electricity tariff in full.

According to the document, dated Ramadan 9, all February bills must be paid this week. The campaign for the first half of March begins on March 20, and all bills for the second half of Ramadan must be collected before Ramadan 28.

The militia also ordered the collection of all overdue debts owed by residents and businesses before the 28th of Ramadan.

It's worth noting that the Houthi militia has transformed the General Electricity Corporation into a private commercial entity, selling electricity on the black market at 240 riyals per kilowatt, instead of the usual seven riyals. It has also imposed a series of illegal fees and levies that appear on all electricity bills, totaling exorbitant amounts.
