Where is the president of Taiz University?

Our Writers| 18 November, 2024 - 8:34 PM

The president of Taiz University has been absent from his work for six years, and has been residing abroad since late 2018, after one of his companions was killed. He has not returned to the university since then, and there are no published details about the case that made the president of one of the largest public universities run it illegally from exile.

Dr. Al-Shaibi has held the position of university president since 2013, in violation of the law that stipulates that the term of the university president is four years, renewable only once.

Theoretically, Taiz University is supposed to accommodate thirty thousand students in its colleges according to published estimates. It is completely impossible to manage this huge number of students from voluntary residence in exile, almost half of whom are from the parallel and private system, and massive control over the university’s revenues in violation of the law, as the university does not have an account in the central bank, and instead opened an exchange company inside the university that was formed in the past years.

According to the Higher Education Council Law, the University Council has the right, upon the invitation of one-third of its members, to take decisions by an absolute majority in the absence of the university president or in his presence. The Higher Education Law for Universities, Article (16) states: In the event of the absence of the university president, his duties shall be carried out by the most senior deputy in the academic title according to the Universities Law.

That Taiz University is managed from exile while its colleges are being bombed and subjected to war, such as the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, and its applied courses are being transformed into theory without the presence of applied laboratories is a major crime against Yemenis, and the same applies to the rest of the colleges, and with the collusion of the University Council, constitutes a heavy betrayal of Yemen, as universities and educational institutions are the most important hope and the most effective center for building Yemen and confronting coups against the constitution and laws by armed militias or presidents, governments and universities who violate the laws and reside abroad.

In the sixties of the last century, students played the most prominent role in overthrowing the Imamate, and in 2011, students also played a prominent role in the peaceful revolution. In the face of the coup, the Student Battalion emerged from Taiz University, and many of them gave their lives in defense of the republic, and many continue to present their struggles in various forms by confronting the Houthis militarily and in other ways.

Saving Taiz University from the administrative, financial and legal corruption in which the university presidency and its council are involved, in light of the collapse of the currency, high prices, and the disruption and lack of practical student laboratories, falls on the shoulders of the students, who may move in one way or another in the coming period to save the university from collapse in light of the tampering of the university leadership, and it is a necessary introduction to saving the rest of the state institutions from those who tamper with them.
