The Israeli army announced on Wednesday evening that 6 soldiers, including a major, were killed in a battle in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah also announced that it had bombed the Israeli Defense Ministry headquarters for the first time.
The army said in a statement published on its website that "a platoon commander in the 51st Battalion of the elite Golani Brigade was killed in a battle in southern Lebanon, along with 5 other soldiers from the same battalion."
The army published the names of the dead officer, who held the rank of major, and four of the dead soldiers, and said that it would publish the name of the remaining soldier at a later time.
With this announcement, the number of soldiers killed in the battles with Hezbollah since the start of the ground attack on Lebanese territory on September 30 has risen to 53.
For its part, the Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth revealed the circumstances of the killing of the 6 Israelis in southern Lebanon.
The newspaper said: “The force moved into the area last night, as part of an operation carried out by the 36th Division (armored) to comb Lebanese territory near the border.”
She added: "A preliminary investigation reveals that the force entered a building around 10:00 a.m. (GMT+3) in which Israeli forces had not yet been operating."
The newspaper added: "The saboteurs (Hezbollah fighters) who set up the ambush in the place opened fire on the Israeli force from a very short distance."
She continued: "The Israeli army is investigating the suspicion that the terrorists emerged from an underground opening, and therefore were not injured in the attacks that preceded the entry of the Israeli force."
Regarding the clash, Yedioth Ahronoth said: “A fierce battle broke out at a short distance inside the building, and at least one of the terrorists was killed. The fighting continued in the area for several more hours until the square was taken over.”
Hezbollah bombs Israeli Defense Ministry
Hezbollah announced on Wednesday that it had targeted the Israeli Defense Ministry headquarters in Tel Aviv twice with a swarm of high-quality drones and ballistic missiles.
The party also reported targeting 3 bases, a military industries company, and a battalion headquarters in northern and central Israel. In addition to bombing two settlements and 8 gatherings of soldiers in northern Israel and southern Lebanon with missiles, and forcing two Israeli drones to leave Lebanese airspace.
This brings the number of attacks and responses carried out by the party today to 20 as of 19:20 GMT, according to a series of statements published via its account on the Telegram platform.
The party said that "for the first time at 13:30 GMT, it launched an air attack with a squadron of high-quality attack drones on the Kirya base in Tel Aviv, where the drones hit their targets accurately."
He pointed out that the Al-Karya base is the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense, the General Staff, the War Management Room, and the Air Force's War Control and Oversight Authority.
On October 24, Hezbollah announced that it had used a Qader 2 missile to bomb the Israeli Glilot military base located on the outskirts of Tel Aviv.
The party says the Qader 2 is a surface-to-surface ballistic missile, 8.6 metres long and 660 mm in diameter.
This missile has a range of 250 km, a total weight of 3,200 kg, and carries a warhead weighing 405 kg, according to data published by the party about it.
Bombing military bases and company
In addition to the Kiryah base, Hezbollah announced that it had targeted 3 other Israeli bases, a military industries company, and a battalion headquarters in northern and central Israel.
The party said that it targeted "the Glilot base, in the suburbs of Tel Aviv (central) with a salvo of high-quality missiles."
He pointed out that this base is considered the headquarters of the Military Intelligence Unit 8200, and is about 110 km from the Lebanese border.
Every day, Hezbollah responds by launching missiles, drones, and artillery shells targeting military sites, intelligence headquarters, military gatherings, and settlements. While Israel announces some of its human and material losses, military censorship imposes a strict blackout on most of the losses, according to observers.
