On Tuesday, Emine Erdogan, wife of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, hosted Latifa al-Droubi, wife of Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, on the sidelines of the latter's visit to the Turkish capital, Ankara.

The two women met for the first time after the Syrian delegation led by Sharaa arrived in Turkey on the latter's second foreign visit since assuming the presidency of Syria following the fall of the regime of ousted President Bashar al-Assad.

Emine Erdogan shared a photo of herself with Latifa Al-Droubi on the “X” platform, and said: “I was very happy to host the honorable Mrs. Latifa Al-Droubi, the wife of the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, who is on an official visit to our country today.”

"We had the opportunity to talk about many important issues such as humanitarian aid, social solidarity, women's empowerment and the role of education," the Turkish president's wife added.

She noted that they discussed "the steps we can take together for women and children, who suffer the most from war around the world," stressing that Ankara "stands by the Syrian people today, as it did in the past, in the process of rebuilding Syria and healing its wounds."

Emine Erdoğan stressed that "a future of peace and stability is the result of a joint effort, and I hope that every step taken on this path will be a lasting hope for the peoples of the region."

It is noteworthy that this is the first official appearance of the Syrian President's wife after the circulation of video clips showing her next to Al-Sharaa while performing the Umrah rituals during his first visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Last month, during his meeting with a delegation of Syrian women residing in the United States, Sharaa introduced his wife, who attended the meeting without appearing in the media.

He also confirmed to the attendees that Al-Daroubi is his only wife, and that he loves her very much, denying everything that was circulated on social media about his having multiple wives, according to what one of the participants in the meeting revealed.

Earlier on Tuesday, Sharaa arrived in the Turkish capital, Ankara, on an official visit, the first of its kind by a Syrian president in nearly 15 years.

Al-Sharaa met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the presidential complex in the capital Ankara, where closed-door talks took place between the two leaders that lasted for nearly 3 continuous hours.
