Qatar Airways announced on Thursday that it will resume flights to Syria starting next Tuesday, January 7.
According to a statement published by Qatar Airways on its website, the Qatari carrier will operate three flights per week to Damascus, thus providing passengers with the opportunity to continue their flights across Qatar Airways’ global network of destinations, which includes more than 170 destinations.
The decision to resume flights confirms Qatar Airways’ commitment to enhancing regional connectivity and meeting the growing demand from passengers. In this context, the national carrier of the State of Qatar is working closely with the relevant authorities to ensure that all flights to Syria meet the necessary safety, security and operational standards before resuming them.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, Badr Mohammed Al Meer, said: “We are delighted to announce the resumption of Qatar Airways flights to Syria, a country with a rich history and culture. This announcement also underscores our commitment to connecting communities and facilitating travel.”
The first Qatar Airways plane landed at Damascus airport after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, following an interruption of more than 13 years, on December 23, and on board was an official Qatari delegation headed by the Minister of State at the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed Al-Khulaifi.
A Qatar Airways plane also transported a shipment of relief and humanitarian aid, ambulances, and relief teams, in addition to technical assistance to contribute to the re-operation of Damascus Airport, ensuring the flow of aid to Syria, via Damascus International Airport on December 30, as part of the air bridge operated by the State of Qatar to support the Syrian people.
