On Friday, Saudi Arabia condemned the crimes committed by outlaw groups in Syria and their targeting of security forces, stressing Riyadh's support for the Damascus government in its efforts to maintain security.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the Kingdom "condemns the crimes committed by outlaw groups in the Syrian Arab Republic and their targeting of security forces."

She stressed that "the Kingdom stands by the Syrian government in its efforts to maintain security and stability and preserve civil peace."

Since the fall of the Assad regime, its remnants have been setting up ambushes for security forces, leaving dead and wounded. The latest and largest of these occurred yesterday, Thursday, in the Latakia Governorate in northwestern Syria. As a result, the security authorities imposed a curfew and began combing the city centers, villages, towns, and surrounding mountains.

On December 8, 2024, Syrian factions took control of Damascus and other cities, ending 61 years of the bloody Baath Party regime and 53 years of Assad family rule.

Following that, the Syrian authorities opened settlement centers with elements of the ousted regime to hand over weapons. Thousands of soldiers responded, while some outlaws refused, especially in the coastal region, the stronghold of Assad's senior officers, and chose to flee and hide in mountainous areas and set up ambushes against government forces.
