In a videotaped speech broadcast by the website of the Presidency of the Syrian Arab Republic, Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa stressed the unity of Syrian territory, vowing to pursue the remnants of the Assad regime, pointing to the cohesion of the Syrian people in confronting them after the terrorizing operations and targeting of the security forces and public facilities affiliated with the state, indicating that what happened on the Syrian coast was "an attack on all Syrians," calling on the internal security forces and the army not to commit violations under the influence of reactions.
Al-Sharaa said in his speech: “Some remnants of the fallen regime sought to test the new Syria that they did not know, and today they are getting to know it again, and they see it as one unified country, from east to west, and from north to south. If a province is touched by a thorn, all the provinces will rally to support it and make it proud.”
Al-Sharaa explained that "in Syria today there is no difference between the authority and the people. Syria means everyone, and it is everyone's responsibility to preserve and support it. This was embodied last night. There is no fear for a country with such people and such a spirit." He added in his speech directed at the remnants of the Syrian regime: "In the battle of liberation, we fought you as someone who is keen on your lives, despite your keenness on our deaths. We are a people who want to reform the country that you destroyed, and we have no interest in anyone's blood. We are a people who fight with the honor of fighting in our hearts, and you fight without honor. What you have done is not strange to you. You have shed Syrian blood for decades, and you are still on the same path, despite our preference for amnesty to avoid falling into such a scene."
Al-Sharaa explained that the heinous acts committed by the remnants of the regime, "killing those who protect Syria and serve it, storming hospitals, and terrorizing the innocent, are an attack on all Syrians, and a great and unforgivable sin," stressing that "the response is coming," and calling on them to "hand over their weapons before it is too late." In his speech, Al-Sharaa addressed the Syrians, saying: "The world has seen your eagerness for your country, your love for it, and your sense of belonging to it, and this is what befits the Syrian people." He said: "Without this love, homelands cannot be built." He then added: "I congratulate the army and security forces for their commitment to protecting and securing civilians while pursuing the remnants of the fallen regime, and their speed in performing their duties."
The Syrian president stressed that no one will be allowed to commit violations or overreact, and that work will be done to prevent them from happening, adding: "We have committed to our principles, and the moment we compromise our morals, we and our enemy will be on the same level. The remnants of the fallen regime are looking for a provocation that will lead to a violation from which they can gain." In his speech, he stressed "the continuation of the pursuit of the remnants of the fallen regime who have continued to commit crimes against the Syrian people, and who seek to undermine civil peace, and to bring them to a fair trial," saying: "We will continue to restrict weapons to the state, and there will be no loose weapons in Syria, God willing, and anyone who transgresses against defenseless civilians, or takes people for the sins of others, will be held strictly accountable."
Al-Sharaa explained that the residents of the Syrian coast in the areas of conflict "are part of the responsibility of the Syrian state, and it is imperative to protect them and save them from the gangs of the fallen regime, despite the course of events," noting that "the state will remain the guarantor of civil peace, and will not allow it to be tampered with at all." He called on the forces affiliated with the Syrian state in the areas of conflict to fully obey the military leaders, to evacuate those sites to control the violations that have occurred, and to enable the security and military forces to complete their work in the best possible way. He concluded: "Syria has moved forward, and will not take a single step backward, so rest assured about it, for it is under God's protection and care."
