The Syrian Ministry of Interior revealed, on Thursday, that two security personnel were injured in an attack on a security checkpoint in the Jdeidet al-Fadl area in the Damascus countryside.

The security official for the Damascus countryside governorate, Lieutenant Colonel Hussam Al-Tahhan, said, "Some remnants of the former regime attacked one of the checkpoints belonging to the General Security Department on the outskirts of the village of Jdeidet Al-Fadl in the Damascus countryside, and opened fire on the forces present at the checkpoint, which resulted in the injury of two of the checkpoint's personnel."

He added in statements reported by the Syrian Interior Ministry via Facebook, that "following the incident, additional forces were called in to pursue those involved in this criminal operation until they are arrested and brought before a fair judiciary to receive the punishment for what their hands have committed."

This comes in the wake of security tensions witnessed in the Qardaha area of Latakia Governorate in western Syria, following acts of sabotage carried out by people participating in a demonstration rejecting the establishment of a security barrier in the area.

According to Syrian media, the demonstration included a number of elements carrying weapons, likely belonging to the regime of ousted President Bashar al-Assad.

The Director of the Public Security Department in Lattakia Governorate, Major Mustafa Knefati, said on Wednesday evening, "Our security units set up a checkpoint in the Qardaha area to maintain security in the area and preserve the safety and property of the residents."

He added in statements reported by the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), "However, groups affected by the imposition of security tried to prevent the checkpoint and attack it, and stir up chaos and attack the city police station."

It is noteworthy that the Syrian authorities continue to carry out extensive security operations against those they describe as "remnants" of the ousted regime in many areas, including the Syrian coast.

The new authorities opened centers in many governorates with the aim of settling the status of the ousted regime forces temporarily, but there are those who did not participate in the settlement process.

On Sunday morning, December 8, the Syrian opposition factions entered the capital, Damascus, and took control of it, with the withdrawal of regime forces from public institutions and streets, thus ending a 61-year era of Baath Party rule and a 53-year era of Assad family rule.

On January 29, the new Syrian administration announced the appointment of Sharaa as president of the country in the transitional phase, along with several revolutionary decisions that called for the dissolution of the Arab Socialist Baath Party, the 2012 constitution, and the parliament of the ousted regime.
