Unknown hackers have hacked virtual Internet cards belonging to customers of the Bank of Yemen and Kuwait v-MasterCard, according to a statement by the bank on its Facebook page on Monday.

The Bank of Yemen and Kuwait said in a statement addressed to its customers: “We would like to inform you of an incident that affected a limited number of virtual Internet cards.”

The bank indicated that the reason was due to "the misuse of one of the cards in unsecured locations, which allowed another party to access the numbers of no more than 7% of the total cards." It did not reveal the number of customers, only the percentage.

The bank confirmed that the total amount withdrawn as a result of the breach does not exceed $10,000. It pledged to recover it in full according to the usual procedures of MasterCard, according to the statement.

The bank said that it has taken all necessary measures to update the systems and prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future, while addressing any security loophole that may have emerged as a result of this incident.

The bank stated that it compensated all deducted amounts and issued new cards to affected customers without delay, and that our customers were not affected by any financial losses as a result of this incident.
