Prime Minister Ahmed bin Mubarak stressed the need to quickly complete the rehabilitation work of the fishing port in Aden, enhance its capabilities and contribute to achieving sustainable development in the fishing sector, which will be reflected in the economic situation and food security.
This came during his inspection on Sunday of the progress of work being done to rehabilitate the fishing port in the Hajif area of Aden, in preparation for activating its activity and resuming work in it as one of the largest fish landing and export ports in the region, according to the Saba Agency.
According to the agency, Ben Mubarak and a number of port officials were briefed on the ongoing work to lift and salvage sunken ships in the port, where 10 ships out of a total of 22 ships were salvaged, and about 250 longitudinal meters out of a total of 530 meters were cleared, and the ongoing cooperation is with the United Nations Development Program and German support.
They explained that the studies, designs and estimated cost of rehabilitating the central workshop and the central refrigerator, which are one of the basic components of the fishing port, have been completed, in addition to completing the assessment of the current condition of the dock and preparing a technical assessment on the rehabilitation of the port and infrastructure.
The Prime Minister toured the port dock and its service facilities, stressing the government's support for the efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries to restore the activity of the fishing port and provide its services in receiving fishing ships, loading and unloading operations, and maintaining fishing equipment.
The port restoration and development project includes the rehabilitation of the infrastructure of the main facilities, which include the port quay with a capacity of (530 m), the ice factory, the cold storage with a capacity of (2000 tons), the fish processing facilities center, the administrative building, the warehouses (7 units), the power systems, and the central workshop.
