EFL Cup: Tottenham beat Liverpool on night of Bentancur's serious injury

Tottenham beat Liverpool 1-0 on Wednesday evening in the first leg of the English League Cup semi-final. On a night when Rodrigo Bentancur suffered a serious injury, the match was stopped for a few minutes.

It is Liverpool's first defeat in all competitions since September 14, 2024, when they lost to Nottingham Forest in the local league, and it is also the Reds' first away defeat in all competitions this season.

Bentancur's injury

The match was stopped for a few minutes to give paramedics a chance to save Tottenham's Uruguayan player Rodrigo Bentancur after he fainted on the pitch due to a collision.

He was transferred on a stretcher to the ambulance, amid the emotional reactions of the players of both teams, especially his teammates and coach Ange Postecoglou.

The Tottenham player was taken to hospital for necessary tests.
