What is Mohamed Salah's future with Liverpool?

Egyptian star Mohamed Salah says he is excited to achieve "something special" amid rumours his season could be his last for Premier League leaders Liverpool.
Salah (32 years old), whose contract expires at the end of the season, has been giving strong performances recently, helping Dutch coach Arne Slot's team to occupy the top of the Premier League standings, six points ahead of their closest competitors.
The international striker has scored 17 goals and provided 13 assists in 18 Premier League games ahead of Sunday's clash with struggling Manchester United.
Reports had suggested that Salah was close to reaching an agreement with Liverpool's management, but he said the matter was "still a long way off" after last week's 5-0 win over West Ham.
Salah was a key part of Liverpool's 30-year wait for the league title in 2020, but celebrations were limited to holding the trophy at an empty Anfield stadium due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
"This is my last year at the club so I want to do something special for the city," Salah said in an interview with Sky Sports published on Friday.
"We waited for that title for 30 years. But winning it coincided with the pandemic and we didn't have time to celebrate it in the right way," he continued.
"It wasn't a nice thing to do, so hopefully we can do it right this year," he added.
Salah is not the only prominent player in the Liverpool squad who could leave next summer, as the contracts of Dutch captain Virgil van Dijk and full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold also expire at the end of the season.
"My motivation this year is to win a title and be a big part of that, especially the Premier League," he explained.
"I still think the team needs a trophy, there's still half the team like me, Trent, Virgil, Alisson (Baker) and Robbo (Andy Robertson). It's essential for us to win another trophy before we all go."
