Newcastle United took a significant step towards reaching the English League Cup final after winning 2-0 at home to Arsenal in the first leg of the semi-final on Tuesday.
Alexander Isak scored his 50th goal for Newcastle United shortly before half-time in the first leg of the semi-final at the Emirates Stadium and then played a big part in Anthony Gordon's second goal for Newcastle in the second half.
Arsenal will probably rue wasting several golden chances, with the woodwork denying Gabriel Martinelli in the first half, while Kai Havertz also missed a golden opportunity.
Newcastle, who have not won a major trophy since 1955, will now be favourites to complete the job in the second leg next month. Tottenham host holders Liverpool in the first leg of the other semi-final on Wednesday.
