Qatar Red Crescent announced, on Wednesday, the launch of the "Food Basket Distribution" project for displaced persons and needy families in northeastern Yemen.

The Qatar Red Crescent said in a statement that the project aims to support food security for about 10,745 displaced persons, widows, and needy families who are most vulnerable and affected by the deteriorating living conditions in Marib Governorate, at a cost of $136,308.

He added that this project, which is being implemented in partnership with its Yemeni counterpart, aims to distribute 1,535 food baskets equally between Marib City and Harib Directorates, sufficient to meet the food needs of a family of 7 individuals over 30 days.

Saif Muthanna, Director of the Executive Unit for the Management of Displaced Persons Camps in Marib Governorate, explained that the project covers the food needs of 767 families in Marib District, and is considered one of the most important projects being implemented in the governorate to alleviate the suffering of the displaced.

For his part, Faris Al-Aqili, Director of the Yemeni Red Crescent Office in Marib, praised these important projects that come amid the difficult conditions experienced by the displaced.

Al-Aqili said that the food basket project comes in response to the authorities’ call to provide for the needs of the displaced and those affected by the floods and conflict, especially with the increasing needs, and that the existing support within the governorate does not meet all needs, in light of the continued influx of displaced people into the governorate.
