An expanded meeting was held, headed by the Deputy Governor of Marib, Dr. Abd Rabbuh Miftah, on Monday, to discuss the humanitarian and service conditions in the temporary Al-Jafina camp for the displaced, which is the largest of its kind in Yemen and includes 17,418 displaced families.
The meeting, which was attended by the Director General of the Governorate Police, Major General Yahya Hamid, the Director of the Executive Unit for the Management of Displaced Persons Camps, Saif Muthanna, and a number of local and security officials, addressed a number of issues related to services, security, and planning within the camp, in addition to enhancing coordination between the relevant authorities.
During the meeting, Undersecretary Miftah stressed the importance of the efforts made to improve the humanitarian conditions in the camp, especially in the areas of security, protection and basic services.
He also stressed the need to strengthen coordination mechanisms between the heads of residential blocks, security units, the executive unit, and the local authority, to ensure an effective response to reports and information, and to enhance security and protection for both the displaced and the original owners of the lands on which the camp is located.
Miftah pointed out that the camp lands are owned by individuals who allowed them to be used temporarily to accommodate the displaced, stressing that disposing of them, whether by selling, buying, or transferring them, is a violation of property rights. He directed the security authorities to take strict measures to arrest the violators and refer them to the judiciary to hold them accountable in accordance with the law.
The meeting approved the focus on improving services and enhancing security within the camp, while emphasizing the rights of the original landowners and the need to prevent any legal violations related to them.
