Deputy Minister of Education Dr. Ali Al-Abab inaugurated today in Marib the project of ready-made classrooms "caravans" in Al-Nasr and Owais Al-Qarni schools, in Al-Samia camp for displaced persons in Al-Wadi district, east of the governorate.

The project consists of 12 ready-made classrooms (caravans) as alternative classrooms equipped with school desks, in addition to 12 bathrooms. The project benefits more than 889 male and female students in the morning and evening periods.

This project comes within the Central Emergency Response Fund project funded by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

At the opening, Al-Abab appreciated UNICEF's humanitarian interventions in various fields, including supporting the education sector in the governorate through implementing temporary projects, building sustainable projects and current renovations in more than ten schools, in order to return students to school, from which more than 3 million male and female students dropped out during the past period, as a result of the war launched by the Houthi militia on Yemen and the Yemenis, most notably education.

He pointed out the importance of focusing on sustainable interventions to meet the educational sector’s needs in terms of infrastructure, classrooms and equipment, to enable schools to accommodate the large numbers of displaced students, a large number of whom are still outside the education system.

He also reviewed the progress of the educational process in the two schools, and listened to an explanation from the school principals about the difficulties and challenges facing the two schools, most notably the large overcrowding of male and female students that exceeds the schools’ capacity, in light of the large deficit in classrooms and seats, and a significant shortage in the teaching staff of male and female teachers for most subjects, especially scientific ones, and a shortage of textbooks and curricula for students.
