The Security Department of the interim capital, Aden (southern Yemen), has continued to detain a journalist for a week, at the request of the former governor of Hadhramaut, member of the Presidential Council, and Vice President of the Transitional Council, Faraj Salmeen Al-Bahsani.
Local sources said that the Aden Security Department has been detaining journalist Mohammed Salem Al-Yazidi since last Thursday, illegally, based on a complaint filed by Faraj Al-Bahsani.
For its part, the so-called Southern Journalists and Media Professionals Syndicate (an illegally established syndicate run by supporters of the Transitional Council) said that the Yazidi journalist has been detained since October 3, 2024, by Aden Security and Criminal Investigation, due to a complaint that has expired by the former Hadhramaut Governor Faraj Al-Bahsani.
She added in a statement addressed to the head of the Press and Publications Prosecution, Khaled Al-Hasani, that the continued detention of the Yazidi journalist without following the illegal procedures is a violation of his rights.
She demanded that the concerned authorities be directed to take the necessary measures to release the Yazidi journalist, while stressing his readiness to appear before the Press, Publication and Printing Prosecution.
Years ago, during Al-Bahsani’s administration of Hadhramaut Governorate, the Yazidi journalist criticized the performance of the local authority and the deterioration of services in the governorate in posts on his personal Facebook page.
Currently, the Yazidi journalist works as a correspondent for Al-Jumhuriya TV, affiliated with Presidential Leadership Council member Tariq Saleh.
