Five people injured in tribal clashes west of Shabwa

At least five people were injured in armed clashes that broke out in a town in Shabwa Governorate (southeast Yemen), amid security chaos in the governorate, which is under the control of the Southern Transitional Council forces.

The sources said that armed clashes broke out on Sunday between the "Al Bahja" tribe and the "Al Muhaqin" tribe in the Upper Markha Directorate, west of Shabwa, leaving at least five wounded on both sides.

The sources added that the clashes came against the backdrop of a dispute between the two sides over the borders of tribal lands.

The sources indicated that tribal mediation succeeded later yesterday evening in stopping the confrontations and imposing an eight-day truce during which the problem between the two parties would be resolved.

The clashes come days after similar clashes in the directorate between the tribes of "Baniyub Al Alawi bin Saleh Al Qabali" and "Al Abdullah bin Hussein", in light of the growing tribal conflicts in the governorate, amid accusations against the local authority and the security and military forces affiliated with the Transitional Council of not taking any measures to limit this growing phenomenon.
