Today, Wednesday, the University of Aden Council organized a protest stand on the campus grounds in Al-Shaab City to express their rejection of the repeated attacks and random encroachment on the campus plan, which is subject to repeated violations by influential parties.
In an extraordinary meeting held by the Council at the College of Engineering, it called for a firm stance by the political leadership represented by the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, and the members of the Council, in addition to the judicial and executive authorities, to protect university lands and stop attacks on them.
The Council expressed its dissatisfaction with the injustice that the university has suffered in its right to dispose of its lands, pointing out that these attacks threaten the university’s strategic projects, most notably the educational hospital project that is planned to be built at a cost of $100 million with a capacity of 500 beds, and the College of Medicine project.
The case follow-up committee, represented by Dr. Mohammed Saleh Mohsen and Dr. Saleh Basarda, reviewed its efforts with the relevant authorities and the importance of concerted efforts to organize protest stands in all colleges.
The university council members held a protest at the site of the encroached land, and raised banners appealing to the concerned authorities to preserve the university campus lands, stressing that protecting these lands is protecting the future of science and the nation.
It is noteworthy that this land, which has an area of 400 square hectares, was granted to Aden University in 1997 under a title deed issued by the State Real Estate Authority, and its ownership was confirmed by a decision of the Land Ownership Treatment Committee in 2009, according to a previous statement by the university.
